How to Join ICPC

 

Are you ready to join chaplains from around the world who are enjoying the benefits of membership in the world's leading membership, training, and advocacy association for law enforcement chaplaincy? Keep reading to learn about the types of membership and how you can join ICPC.


Types of Membership

 

ICPC offers four types of membership under the category of Full Membership, as described here.

Chaplain Members1

  • Have secured notice of appointment to serve as a chaplain in a law enforcement agency2 
  • Hold ecclesiastical endorsement or are certified as clergy, or a member of a religious order, in good standing by a recognized religious body, religious organization, and seminary of religion, social service institution, hospital, hospice, or religious congregation3 
  • Have not less than five years experience in pastoral, educational, or counseling ministry
  • May vote at regional and annual training seminars
  • May hold elected office at the regional or national level
  • May participate on committees, either as a chairperson or member.
  • May pursue credentialing above the Basic level


Liaison Members1 

  • Are sworn police officers or departmental designees whose departmental assignment includes coordination of that department’s chaplaincy program2  
  • May vote at regional and annual training seminars  
  • May hold elected office at the regional or national level  
  • May participate on committees, either as a chairperson or member  
  • May pursue credentialing above the Liaison level  


Retired Members1 

  • Have been ICPC Chaplain or Liaison members in good standing for at least five (5) years
  • May vote at regional and annual training seminars  
  • May hold elected office at the regional or national level  
  • May participate on committees, either as a chairperson or member  
  • May pursue credentialing above the Basic or Liaison level  


Life Members1 

  • Have been ICPC Chaplain or Liaison members in good standing for at least five (5) consecutive years
  • Agree to pay the one-time life membership fee
  • May vote at regional and annual training seminars  
  • May hold elected office at the regional or national level  
  • May participate on committees, either as a chairperson or member  
  • May pursue Liaison credentialing  

 

In addition to the membership types listed above, ICPC offers three other categories of membership, as described here.

Associate Members1

  • Have been appointed to function as chaplains for a law enforcement agency or an affiliate organization2 but may lack ecclesiastical endorsement by a recognized religious body and/or pastoral ministry experience 


Affiliate Members1 

  • Are individuals or groups who have an interest in, and are supportive, of Law Enforcement; who are in agreement with the mission, Canons of Ethics and objectives of ICPC; and have a desire to affiliate with ICPC


Honorary Members1 

  • Are individuals who, through meritorious service or special interest in ICPC, are awarded the status of Honorary Member by ICPC upon recommendation of its Board of Directors or Executive Committee



1All members are expected to adhere to ICPC's Canons of Ethics.

2Evidence of appointment to serve as chaplains must be provided in writing by the appointing agency (on letterhead, addressed to ICPC, currently dated, and signed, verifying a criminal background check and appointment date).

3Evidence of endorsement by a religious body must be provided in writing by the religious body (on letterhead, addressed to ICPC, currently dated, and signed by a denominational or congregational official attesting to the chaplain's ecclesiastical standing).


How to Join

 

To join ICPC, simply click or touch the DOWNLOAD MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION button on this page to download the application form. After you complete the application, we'll work with you to help you submit the required documents that are described here.

  • Agency endorsement letter for individuals applying to become Chaplain, Liaison, or Associate Members (as described above)
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement letter for individuals applying to become Chaplain Members (as described above)
  • Evidence of a criminal background check (all individuals applying for any type of membership must provide verification that a criminal background check has been completed, which may be included in the agency endorsement letter described above)
  • A copy of your driver's license or other government-issued photo identification


After completing the application process, you'll be asked to pay the annual membership dues of $125 USD. If you are applying from outside the USA, contact the ICPC office for assistance in calculating the membership dues that are based on your country's GDP in relation the GDP in the United States.
