Disaster Training for Law Enforcement Chaplains
Here are some pictures of training sessions for chaplains co-sponsored by the
Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy and the Pacific Northwest Region of ICPC.
Highlight of the two-day session in 1996 was a presentation by Dr. Jack Poe,
chaplain of the Oklahoma City, OK, Police Department, followed by a field
exercise.

participating in an urban disaster drill.
Dr. Poe serves as a full-time chaplain. He used his experience at the April 19,
1995, bombing of the Federal Building to encourage chaplains to become trained
in all aspects of disaster work when the normal resources of emergency services
are no longer functional.

Fort Steilacoom. The training site features an concrete and brick building that
was intentionally destroyed and left for training emergency services personnel
by the Pierce County, WA, Emergency Management agency.
More than 30 emergency service chaplains and other support professionals
participated in a two-day crisis intervention and disaster preparation training
program sponsored by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy in October, 1996.
The sessions, held in the suburban cities of University Place and Lakewood, WA,
featured Dr. Jack and Phyllis Poe, both serving as chaplains for the Oklahoma
City, OK, Police department.
